My Favorite Songs: 2017

Throughout the year, I discovered many songs across various genres and decades. Below is a list specific to 2017 – the songs I listened to on repeat, the ones that made me feel something, that made me dance, and made me cry. Happy listening and Happy New Year!!!

I Got Troubled Thoughts And The Self-Esteem To Match (What A Catch)

For the past six or so months I’ve been trying to keep a positive/happy facade during a time of personal struggle in my life. But you know what? I’m fucking done with that. I’m pissed off and frustrated. If this is growing up, I think Peter Pan had the right idea. So today, I prescribed myself a dose of loud music and a spoonful of head-banging-whilst-lip-singing songs. This was today’s playlist:

Bleachers “I Wanna Get Better”

All American Rejects “Gives You Hell”

Fall Out Boy “What A Catch, Donnie”

Quietdrive “Rise From the Ashes”

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus “Face Down”

The Used/My Chemical Romance “Under Pressure”

Ashes Picks For the Best Songs Of 2014

Happy December!

Wow. What a year for music. Even though nothing will ever beat the comfy, nostalgic warmth of the late 90’s/early 00’s for me, 2014 was quite impressive (albeit, still not over).

Below is a modified list of the songs that were quite literally music to my ears these past 12 months. I’m 99% sure all songs listed can be found by searching for them on my blog.

Anything by The 1975. Seriously. But if I had to pick, I’d go with their most recent gem, “Medicine”

It’s a three-way tie for Ariana Grande’s “Break Free” f/ Zedd, “One Last Time” and “Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart” This year did wonders for her career.

Banks “Beggin For Thread”. An understated pop phenom.

Bleachers “I Wanna Get Better” + “Wild Heart”. Do yourself a favor and go see them live. You won’t regret it.

Clean Bandit “Rather Be” f/ Jess Glynne. What’s a best of year list without this song? I mean, those strings!

Damien Rice “The Greatest Bastard”. The feels.

Ed Sheeran “Thinking Out Loud”. The man can sing AND dance!

Ella Eyre “Comeback”. Let that motherfucker burn 🙂

Jessie Ware “Say You Love Me”. The feels part deux.

La Roux “Sexotheque”. As close to perfect as a song can get.

O.A.R. “Peace”. Underrated.

Sia “Chandelier”. Sick.

Tove Lo x2 with “Out Of Mind” + “Moments”. Pop’s newest contender.

White Sea “Future Husbands Past Lives”. Epic shit.

Why My World Is Now Complete

I was at the MisterWives/Bleachers show last night in NYC (FYI It was fucking awesome!!!) As you may or may not know, the front man of Bleachers is Jack Antonoff of Fun. fame. Jack is dating Lena Dunham who happens to be my favorite person/celebrity. I have not met her personally but as an outsider, I adore her personality, opinions, writing and now I can add her dancing abilities to the list. Yes, I was standing across from Ms. Dunham at last nights show and got to see her dance it out to her boyfriends band. And that is why my world is now complete.

Enjoy your weekends!
