Fall Out Boy “What A Catch, Donnie”

So I had never heard this song before today but while checking out a Top 10 Fall Out Boy Songs list from Popcrush I happened across it. It’s from 2008’s Folie a Deux, an album that must’ve slipped by me. It’s odd because I was totally into From Under The Cork Tree and Infinity On High. Guess it makes sense though because I became super into singer-songwriters around 2006/2007. So if you weren’t John Mayer, you weren’t getting my attention 🙂

Anyways, at least I found this goodie. The vocals throughout but especially in the song’s climax are quite brilliant.

Charli XCX “Take My Hand”

Charli’s debut album, True Romance, is highly recommended by yours truly. There’s tons of goodies to listen to (including “Set Me Free-Feel My Pain”, “Nuclear Seasons”, “What I Like” etc.) but “Take My Hand” is the standout for me. It’s reminiscent of a late 80’s/early 90’s mega pop hit. Especially when the chorus kicks in.

The entire album has a youthful yet mature, cohesive sound. It’s fun girls night out music thats still edgy and totally kick-ass.

The Band Perry “Mother Like Mine”

I had the pleasure of meeting TBP a few years ago at my first job. What I remember most about them is how friendly they were to me and everyone in the office. And their performance was a hit. They made a lot of fans that day 🙂

With Mother’s Day coming up I thought I’d share “Mother Like Mine”, my favorite song from their most recent album, Pioneer. “Mother Like Mine” goes up there with the best of the mom dedication songs like Backstreet Boys “The Perfect Fan”, Spice Girls “Mama”, and Boys II Men’s “A Song For Mama”.

Happy Mother’s Day Mom!

The Weepies “World Spins Madly On”

I was listening to my ipod this morning on the rainy bus ride to work and this song came on. There was a period of time when I was obsessed with it. And after hearing it again today I remember why. It’s simple yet epic, which tend to be my favorite kind of songs. The lyrics are relatable and the sentiment really comes through the vocals. The instrumentals and guitar strumming encapsulate that feeling of longing, that even though you are heartbroken or really missing someone, the world will continue to spin on. It’s a good life lesson plus the perfect soundtrack to a rainy day.

Young Galaxy “Pretty Boy”

The video to this upbeat, dream pop song makes me happy. Two misfits lost in the world have found each other and together, they dance their worries away. It’s kind of freeing. Hopeful. And positive. And lord knows we can all use a bit more of that in our lives.
